Emergency Action Plan

What to do in a medical emergency at Barton Clough Playing Fields.

Last reviewed: 31 August 2026 · Barton Clough Playing Fields

This is the club's plan for what to do if someone is seriously hurt or unwell at Barton Clough. Every coach, manager and first-aider should know it. Coaches are given a printed one-page version to keep in their first-aid kit.

If someone collapses or is seriously hurt
  1. Stay calm. Stop play and make the area safe.
  2. Assess — are they conscious? breathing? Give first aid only within the limits of your training.
  3. Call 999, ask for an ambulance, and give the address and what3words below, what has happened, the person's age and their condition.
  4. Send someone to the entrance to flag the ambulance in — there is one entrance, the road off Audley Avenue up to Barton Clough Primary School, into the fields.
  5. Get the defibrillator (see below) if it may be needed — send a second person; don't leave the casualty.
  6. Do not move a seriously injured person unless they are in immediate danger.
  7. Keep the child's parent or carer informed and stay with the child until help arrives.

Defibrillator (AED)

There is a defibrillator on the wall to the left of the clubhouse entrance. The access code is held by team coaches and is also given out by the 999 call handler. Bring it to the casualty and follow the spoken instructions on the device.

First aid and after an incident

Every team must have at least one qualified first-aider within its coaching team, and a stocked first-aid kit pitch-side at training and matches. The club provides and restocks team first-aid kits.

After any incident, tell the Club Welfare Officer (safeguarding@urmstontownjfc.co.uk) as soon as possible and record what happened. If a child was seriously hurt, follow our Safeguarding Children policy.
